Buzzing to the race

It has been far too long since I have posted. The other day I sat down and read through some old posts, mostly my race recaps. It was fun to look back through all those emotions of race day. I have missed both racing, and writing about it.

For the past 12 weeks I have been training with my local Fleet Feet store for the two half marathons. When I first started the training I was committed to one race, which is on October 17. I signed up back in January when it was just $25. Once training got started I decided to run another big half marathon that is here in Cincinnati, the Queen Bee. It is put on by the Flying Pig so I know it will be a great race! That race is this weekend, and I could not be more thrilled to be running it!

Way back in July I ran a 5k time trail for my training group. That day I ran 3.1 miles in 25:02, an 8:05 pace. That time placed me in the 9:30-10 pace group. I felt like that was slow for me, but I went with it. Maybe I needed to train slower in hope of racing faster (or for me, getting my speed back after pregnancy). I starting running three days a week again and felt awesome. I LOVE being back with a training group, the miles go by so fast, I’ve made new friends, and it is a nice change of courses. Overall, this training cycle has been great! I am feeling strong this week, which means I trained smart. A few weeks ago we did a 12 miler on most of the Queen Bee course and I was pleased with my {mostly} negative splits:

I have a goal to finish the race at 1:50, but I will be happy with anything under 2 hours.  I am running with a friend who has a goal of 1:45 so who knows, maybe my legs will be feeling that pace come race day! All I know is I am SO excited to race again. I love the excitement, the sense of accomplishment, and the joy of crossing that finish line. This year I will have a new cheerleader on the course, Breck. I know he won’t ever remember this race but I will always remember him coming to watch me run 13.1 miles-since the last time I ran a half he was in my belly! I plan on coming back to post my race recap, until then follow me on Instagram and Twitter to stay updated!
