I’m back! My blog was down for most of last week, hopefully I don’t have any more issues! Anyway, week 16 is in the books! I am officially in taper mode! In less than two weeks I will be a marathoner times two!
Monday: I don’t have much to say about this run. After the events that took place in Boston, I found myself completely unmotivated. I knew I had to get 8 miles in, and actually stepping away from the tv did me good. I felt much better after this run.
Tuesday: I went to the gym for circuit training. I felt like like class was heavy on the arms and abs, which my legs were thankful for!
Wednesday: It was a hot speedwork run! I could tell rain was coming in because it was very humid as well.
We ran a 1 mile warm up to a local park to do .8 mile repeats. We were told to run :30 faster than race pace, but my coach made us run a little faster. I have come to love speed work, I have seen the benefits of the hard work!
Thursday: I went to circuits class again and was excited to see we were taking the class outside. It’s fun to do workouts with things at the park like incline push ups on the picnic table, lunges over the small bridges, and running the steps. It keeps class interesting!
Friday: Rest day.
Saturday: On Wednesday we were told we would have the option of running 18, 20, or 22 miles. Our coach advised us that running anything over 18 miles two weeks before the marathon would do more harm than good. I took his advice and just ran the 18. I am glad I did because my calf was talking to be at mile 15. It isn’t a sharp pain or anything but I’m paying attention to it. I had the same pain last Saturday and I felt it for a few days after. I didn’t feel it as much on Sunday so I hope that is a good thing!
After the run, our training group had the annual grill out. It was nice to sit and chat. I think 10:45 was the earliest I’ve ever drank a beer but after 18 miles it hit the spot. Someone from the group made these adorable flying pig cookies that were very tasty!
Sunday: My plan was to go to yoga but I woke up with a sore throat and feeling achy. I am pretty sure it is because of the drastic weather change we have going on (80 one day, 35 the next). I laid on the couch most of the day watching movies. Andy was awesome and made sure I had some chicken noodle soup for dinner. I’ve got myself a good one 🙂
How did your training go last week? Anyone else in taper mode? Who else has been experiencing crazy weather change?
